No - you can book directly without a GP or specialist referral. If you have a referral (e.g. from a surgeon or GP for a Medicare rebate), bring it along, but it's not required to get started with The Hand OT.

We specialise in upper limb and hand rehabilitation, including post-surgical recovery, fractures, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, arthritis, tendinopathies (like tennis elbow or trigger finger), and splinting/bracing needs.

Your initial consult includes a full assessment of your injury or condition, a discussion of your goals, and the start of a tailored treatment plan. If you need a splint, this is often where fitting begins. Plan for around 45–50 minutes.

Yes - custom-fabricated thermoplastic splints are a core part of what we do, fitted precisely to your hand and adjusted as your recovery progresses.

The Hand OT (occupational therapy) is a private billing practice, with payment required on the day of treatment for all private patients. We accept card only payment via EFTPOS (Visa Card and Master Card only).

Private Health Insurance rebates may be available to you, however, we are unable to provide on the spot rebates due to item codes.

We are not a bulk billing practice, however, we do accept Medicare care plans provided by your GP. Full payment on the day is required and an out of pocket expense still applies.  Please contact us for an obligation free quote prior to booking.

Failure to attend a booked appointment without cancellation, may incur a fee.

Sessions with The Hand OT under a valid Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, or relevant referral, may be eligible for a partial Medicare rebate. Ask us to confirm your eligibility before your appointment.

Most private health funds offer rebates for occupational therapy / hand therapy under extras (ancillary) cover. Rebate amounts vary by fund and policy. Check with your provider for more information.

Yes! Let us know when booking if your treatment relates to a workplace injury or DVA (Department of Veterans Affairs) coverage, and we'll guide you through the process.

This depends entirely on your condition, its severity, and your goals. Some people need just a handful of sessions for a splint and home program; others recovering from surgery may need ongoing therapy over several months. We'll give you a realistic estimate after your first assessment.

Any relevant scans, surgical reports, or referral letters, a list of current medications, and comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your affected arm/hand.

The Hand OT requires at least 24 hours notice for cancellations. For cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment, or no-shows, you will incur the full fee.
